Program Background

The Euphrasia Women Centre (EWC), established in 1992 in South B, Nairobi, focuses on supporting orphans and adolescent girls, mainly survivors of child prostitution and abuse.

In 2015, the Centre relocates to Ngong, Kajiado County, expanding outreach to informal settlements in Mathare and Gicagi in Ngong town, and to Ewangan and Nalepo villages in rural Kajiado.

EWC runs several ongoing programs to empower women, support children, and train youth.

Women Economic Empowerment

Since 2022, the Women Economic Empowerment project grew with registered SHGs  members

The groups are supported through:

  • Microfinance
  • Entrepreneurship training
  • Group welfare
  • Rights awareness
  • Life skills
  • Spiritual formation

Some SHGs are planned for exit, having attained their desired goal of becoming self-reliant.

Child Mentorship

The Child Mentorship program children are supported through:

  • Counselling
  • Life skills
  • Psycho-social support
  • Health and hygiene
  • Play
  • Spiritual formation
  • Life skills
  • Spiritual formation

This intervention addresses the growing number of child neglect and delinquency, especially in Mathare, Gicagi, and Kahara.

Adult Literacy Program

Participants  are enrolled in the adult literacy program for training on basic numeracy and literacy.

The sessions are offered in Ewangan, Mathare, Gicagi, and Kahara. The program runs in partnership with local churches and the County Government, who provide venues, learning materials, and curriculum for adult learning.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

The TVET project targets unemployed youth in Ngong to enhance employability skills necessary to combat crime, high youth unemployment, and increased poverty. Skills training offered in 2024 includes:

  • Hairdressing and Beauty
  • Food & Beverages
  • Dressmaking 
  • Computer
