GSS Kitui Program is a ministry of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd Sisters of the Eastern, Central Africa Province (ECAP) whose main mission is to minister to the women, girls, and children whose condition in life cries out for the healing and merciful love of Jesus the Good Shepherd with the aim of empowering them to become the people God created them to be. The overall goal of GSS Kitui Programme over the next four years is to build a high impact community with focus on women, children, and girls through an empowerment, education and protection programs with notable impacts leading to social transformation of the community and the society at large
The main projects that are run under the program include the following:
Rehabilitation aims to keep children and youth safe from abuse and maltreatment, ensuring that they have the best outcomes, able to grow and develop happily and healthily. While in the center, non-formal education is carried out in a nurturing, protective, and structured environment.
Both individual and group counseling are offered by a professional counselor to curb emotional stress and improve mental health for children and youth increasing their opportunities to participate meaningfully in society.
After six months to one year of rehabilitation, almost all children and youth are enrolled back in school, each according to their levels of education. This drives the transformation of children and youth towards self-reliance, responsible citizens/leaders, and community building
This involves creating awareness of the issues of street children, building community capacities through home visits and school visitations by our social workers to sustainably address these issues, and lobbying and advocating for policy change.
