Program Background

The mission in Kampala was initiated in 2008 and is presently supporting 37 women who are mainly former prostitutes and former alcoholics to rebuild their lives. Good Shepherd Sisters have a long experience in the provision of education and skills training to women and children to build their capacity and rediscover their self-esteem and set them off into a path of self-sustenance and dignified life.

GSS Kampala Program’s work targets vulnerable women, girls, and children who are excluded from the mainstream social system. These women, girls, and children do not fully participate in social, economic, and political life. The situation is reinforced by gender inequalities, geographic isolation, negative ethnicity, poverty, and different forms of disability.
