The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd Eastern Central Africa Province (ECAP) is an international apostolic religious organization whose mission of reconciliation reaches out to the poor and vulnerable members of the society with a special attention to women, girls and children.
The primary focus of RGS is to address the unjust structures in the society and with a specific orientation to marginalized women, girls, and children. This is accomplished mainly through ministries in slums, healthcare, education, income generating projects, advocacy, and crisis intervention centres, among others. As Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd commits to its mission of reconciliation through alleviation of suffering to the vulnerable groups, it is faced with contextual realities that typically are local, national, and international in nature.
The diverse contexts could be supportive in the work of Sisters but also constraining in some instances. The local contexts prescribe norms, traditions, and practices that the ministries and projects interact with on a day-to-day basis.
The government and its mandated agencies provide frameworks and guidelines that regulate activities that would-be of direct interest to RGS-ECAP. These measures are contained in national plans, policies and legal instruments that aim to promote regulation, coordination, and standardization. The call is to daily strive to serve those at the margins of society according to the Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd Mission and Charism.
